Uplands Park and Oak Bay are on the ancestral territory of the Lekwungen people, known today as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations. We respect and honour their vital relationship with these lands and waters and how they have cared for them through countless generations, continuing to the present and into the future.
Uplands Park Bird Walk – Saturday January 23, 2016.
Email announcement from David Newell:
On Saturday, January 23, Geoffrey will be leading his Friends of
Uplands Park Bird Walk. Please meet at 9:00 a.m. in the large parking
lot out at the end of Cattle Point. Uplands Park is at the north end
of Willlows Beach in Oak Bay. After observing wintering sea and shore
birds, we will head inland into the park to observe the many birds in
this fabulous Garry Oak Meadow Community.
Did you know that a record-breaking 86 species were found on the Oak
Bay Bird version of the Christmas Bird Count? Last year we broke the
record with 82! Highlights included Harris’s Sparrow, White-throated
Sparrow, Rock Sandpiper, Barred Owl, Great Horned Owl, Northern
Shrike, Merlin, Peregrine Falcon, Eurasian Wigeon, and Western
Meadowlark.
