The May 2024 Friends of Uplands Park bird walk is taking place on Friday, May 31st. We meet in the main parking lot at Cattle Point at 9:00am.
This is a fun time of year for birding as a variety of spring migrants add lovely song and tropical colours to our blooming Garry Oak meadows. Some of our target species during the bird walk will include Western Wood-Pewee, Warbling Vireo, Chipping Sparrow, Cedar Waxwing, American Goldfinch, Western Tanager, Black-headed Grosbeak, and Wilson’s Warbler. Many rarities are popping up all over the region as well.
The photo attached is of a female Calliope Hummingbird (a very rare visitor from the BC interior) feeding on Camas on Mount Tolmie (found and photographed by Geoffrey Newell).
FYI – We plan to have the June, July, and August bird walks all run on a Saturday or Sunday.
