BIRD WALK SATURDAY JUNE 25 8am

Meet Friends of Uplands Park Birder, Geoffrey Newell, at Cattle Point for an amazing bird walk from the ocean into the oak woodlands and meadows of Uplands Park.  Bring your binoculars and your keen senses of sight and hearing.

The above photo, taken by Geoffrey recently, is of an extremely rare bird in a June plum bush in Uplands Park.  Maybe you too will see something you don’t know exists in our park!

UPLANDS PARK CROW GARLIC REMOVAL: SUNDAYS IN JUNE AND JULY FROM 1 – 3PM

Meet at the Dorset entrance to the park, near Beach Drive.

Crow Garlic (Allium vinale) flowers

Pulling up the plant removes the large bulb and also the flower that makes seeds and bulblets.

We are hoping to reduce the impact of the almost solid mat of garlic bulbs under the soil that probably prevents other plants from growing.

This year there are more than ever, possibly because of the cool, wet spring.

Margaret’s mobile “shed” will supply tools, gloves, large black garbage to dispose of this extremely invasive plant, and refreshments at the end.
