If you see people peering closely at leaves, running around with nets, or lying on their bellies looking intently at the ground, you may have just stumbled upon Upland Park’s first insect bioblitz!

Entomologists and insect enthusiasts from across the region will be gathering on from July 11th – 13th collecting insects and photographs of insects to upload to iNaturalist, a free citizen science app that contributes to our knowledge of biodiversity.

A 1985 study by David Evans of the Pacific Forestry Research Centre documented over 800 species of insects associated with Garry oak trees! How many insects might we discover in the bioblitz in the diverse and rare habitats at Uplands Park?

Stay tuned to find out…
