David Newell sends news about forthcoming bird walks in Uplands Park with Geoffrey Newell:
On Saturday, April 30, join Geoffrey for an exciting spring migration Friends of Uplands Park bird Walk. Please meet at 8:00 a.m. (an earlier time in the summer!) in the large parking lot out at the end of Cattle Point. Uplands Park is at the north end of Willlows Beach in Oak Bay. After observing sea and shore birds, we will head inland into the park to listen to and search for the many song birds in this fabulous Garry Oak Meadow Community. To top it off, several of the 22 species of endangered species of plants are now in full bloom.
On Sunday, May 1, Geoffrey will be participating in the Friends of Uplands Park Camas Day Inspiration event, and will be at Cattle Point to talk and show people the Marine foreshore and the Birds. Uplands Park is 70 years old this year and the Camas Day Inspiration event is from 12 noon to 4 pm. People are invited to come out to celebrate those who have been involved, inspired and have created art, music, dance, and participated in restoration and educational activities. More details on the FOUP website.
On Saturday, May 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 1 p.m., Geoffrey will be participating in International Migratory Bird Day at Beaver Lake Park. He will be giving three walks at 9:00, 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. If you would like to learn about the many associations involved in the concern for birds in the Victoria area, there will be several tented displays sure to attract those who have a keen interest in birds. The day is presented by the CRD Regional Parks, the Victoria Natural History Society, and the Rocky Point Bird Observatory. Join in the guided bird walks and the mist-netting, hummingbird and passerine bird banding demonstrations. There will also be crafts and games for younger children. This annual event is always very motivating and for which one will come to look forward to.
