FOUP November Bird Walks & other Birding News

David Newell sends this announcement about two forthcoming November Bird Walks at Cattle Point/Uplands Park, along with news of the Christmas Bird Count, in Oak Bay, that will be of interest to birders.

Dear Friends of Uplands Park: Here are three birdng events:

1) Geoffrey Newell’s monthly birding for the Friends of Upland’s Park is on Saturday Nov. 21. This walk may be of particular interest to those who will be participating in the Oak Bay Christmas Bird Count. Please meet in the large parking lot at the end of Cattle Point at 9:00 a.m. After viewing birds along the ocean, we will head inland to look for wintering birds inside of the park.

2) David Newell will be leading the next bird walk in Upland’s Park on Saturday Nov. 28 as Geoffrey will be refereeing at a karate tournament on that day. Please meet in the large parking lot at the end of Cattle Point at 9:00 a.m. After viewing birds along the ocean, we will head inland to look for wintering birds inside of the park.

3) If you are interested in joining in on the Christmas Bird Count, please contact us at dnewell350@gmail.com This year, the CBC is on Saturday, Dec. 19, meeting at the ocean end of Rutland Rd. at 8:00 a.m. You can come for just part of the day, if you wish. Make certain that you are wearing rubber boots and warm clothes. Have an umbrella, just in case. We will stop at the Oak Bay Marina at about 11:30 for half an hour before continuing on into south Oak Bay. We finish at about 3:30 p.m. This event occurs whether rain or shine…
